Before meeting James Ball from the Guardian last week, it seems that it is not only me that had a small understanding of the term data journalism.

As the technological world has developed at a rapid rate, the way in which we now do things like read newspapers or books has changed dramatically in as little as the last 5 years. With the influx of tablet based personal computers into the market (like the iPad) and digital book readers (like the Kindle) for many people reading print publications is a thing of the past and having a subscription to their favourite newspaper or magazine for their iPad is up-to-date, trendy and above all – more convenient.

The importance this has on our topic, data journalism, is astronomical, as it is the ability to become interactive with the graphics produced that is one of its most appealing attributes. For data…
